Here're an attempt to illustrate this juxtaposition through an altered Soviet "coat of arms" and symbols that are often associated with the GOP and their DNC friends. The CP of the USSR was able to centralize power under the guise of "national security" and "order", during conditions of war, the Russian Civil War and actual foreign invasion. The Republicans are championing the worst of what the Commies had to offer -- the repressive State apparatus -- after just 1 terrorist attack. Their extremist hardliner approach to world affairs is quite revealing. It's fascinating to see GOP propagandists denounce the leaders of "Old Europe" for going along with the majority opinion of their countrymen on the Iraq war fiasco. They reveal their true selves when they argue that democratic leadership is about "strong leadership", ie "imposing policy on your population against their will when PR tactics designed by the world's Big Boss fail." Domestically, the GOP and some centrist/right and so-called-Liberal Democrats are raising eyebrows all over by enacting Patriot Acts 1 & 2, laws that give the FBI powers to secretely break into your home or office and take what they wish, without any judicial oversite, without notifying you indefinitely (Section 213). These ideas and laws smack of authoritarianism at its worst.
